Why I wrote the PERFORMANCE Parenting Framework

If you’ve ever found yourself looking at your child, and then at your own reactions...and thinking, “I want to do better, but I’m not sure how,” you’re not alone. Parenting advice is everywhere, but many parents still feel reactive, frustrated, or unsure if they’re doing the right things.

This workbook and audio companion can help parents foster better relationships, raise more confident kids, and create calmer households.

P – Praise & Power

Notice effort, not just outcomes. Praise the process and let your child feel their own capability.

E – Example Setting

Children learn more from what we model than what we say. Be the calm you want to see.

R – Relationship First

Connection builds cooperation. Kids follow trust before they follow rules.

F – Follow-Through

Boundaries create safety. Following through turns words into something children can rely on.

O – Opportunity, Ownership, & Options

Create small chances for independence, decision-making, and problem-solving.

R – Routine & Responsibility

Predictability gives stability. Routines help kids feel safe; responsibility builds confidence.

M – Meals & Moments

Daily rituals—meals, bedtime talks, car rides—build belonging.

A – Authenticity

Be real, not perfect. Kids trust honesty over performance.

N – Noticing

Catch them doing good things. Acknowledgment shapes behavior better than correction.

C – Consideration

Model empathy and thoughtfulness. Show that kindness is strength.

E – Emotions, Energy & Excitement

Regulate yourself so you can help your child regulate too. Every feeling is information.

Example Reflection Questions

Do I sometimes prioritize rules over relationships?

Who is one adult I respected as a kid and what was it about them that earned my respect?
